Buried treasure?

Recently during a break in Donegal, my eye was drawn to an unusual shaped jug in the room where I was writing. I sensed the Holy Spirit’s nudge to invite Him to fill me just like this jug.

He reminded me the purpose of a jug is to contain what is being poured in, but it is also designed to pour out what it has been filled with.

An expanse of water without inlet or outlet soon becomes stagnant.

I’ve blocked outlets in my life because I’ve allowed the opinions of others to be more of a concern than obedience to my Father.

What is the Holy Spirit pouring into you to pour out to others?

Have you allowed anything to block the outlet?

Today I read a devotional by Alan Scott entitled ‘Permission to Dream‘. At first as I read, I was tempted to feel not only dream-less but job-less, aim-less, even worth-less.

I don’t know what ‘LESS’ words come to your mind or are entrenched in your heart but I do know this – no matter how we feel, NOTHING can make Him love us less. This precious and powerful love makes us MORE. “We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37).

This love gives us permission to dream again.

You are God’s idea, and He longs to see the treasure that is in your heart. As we learn to dream with God we become co-labourers with Him.” (Bill Johnson)

He longs to see the treasure that is in your heart” because He deposited it there in the first place. He hasn’t given us dreams, desires, talents, gifts, uniqueness for it all to remain buried treasure. When we use and reveal this treasure it brings him pleasure and that is increased when this treasure brings us pleasure too!

Eric Liddell famously said in Chariots of Fire “when I run, I feel His pleasure“.

His pleasure is made complete when we give away what we’ve been given, when we share His treasure.

Have you hidden this treasure on the shelf or buried because it doesn’t look like anyone else’s and you’ve no idea where to start with it? Are you blocking outlets because you feel inadequate or insecure?

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4

He is the one who has planted those desires and that treasure right there in you.

What is the treasure in your heart? What is your dream?

REMEMBER He longs to see it and RECEIVE His permission to dream again.
